Just when you thought....

JUST WHEN YOU THOUGHT IT WAS SAFE TO GET BACK IN THE WATER...

After two successful post knee pain runs, IT'S BACK.

2 miles into last nights run the knee pain returned.  To say I'm disappointed. To say I'm concerned.  To say I'm lost....that would be a understatement.

What does a runner do when they can't run?  I hope I don't find out.

Doctors appointment Thursday.

Pls pray for my knee...

"I will praise you in the storm..."  God has a plan for me, I trust in him.

Happy Sunday

Back from Vacation and back on the road.

WOW Amy Hastings (US Olympian) ran an awesome 10000 meters...inspiring!
 NBC Video

+17 days since the doctor told me to take a few days (14) off.  This morning (Sunday) my second run back went well.  5.5 miles in hot and humid conditions.  No knee pain and my legs felt good.  I don't think I lost anything in my aerobic conditioning.  Now it's getting back to my summer training.

This week I'll ease back into my routine...keeping my runs on flat surfaces.  July 4th we have the Freedom 8k which I'll run around 80% effort and tackle the hills as they come.  On 14 July I have a group run from Jamestown settlement to Yorktown battle fields.  A very pretty and hilly 20+ miles.

Some of the fall out of my recovery time.  First month I'll fall short of 100 miles in over a year.  And my monthly streak of running a 20 miler is over as I failed to get one in during the month of June.

Bummer....but the lack of knee pain is a good trade off.

GOD has blessed me greater then I ever thought possible.

How is your running going?  Post a comment and tell us about it.

Coming Back...

I won't pretend that my come back was from a major injury requiring surgery or something like that.  I had a slight case of tendonitis.  Not earth shattering and as far as I know, no one has died from it.  Yet the time on the sidelines, the time away from running was tough to take.  And after this mornings successful 5 miles, I'm glad to be back

From the first indication of pain...I lived in denial.  I could not get injured, I had run nearly 12 years without much time away, recovery was for the other guys.  But with a 30 minute visit to the doctor...it was me.

My time away has taught me a few lesson.

#1 Do not take your health for granted.

#2 Do not take running for granted, after nearly 10000 miles...I figured I would always be able to run.

#3 REST, REST, REST is important

#4  Pay attention to your work outs...do not repeat the specialty workouts to often, to many hills, to much speed, to many tempos run without easy days, recovery runs and days off your feet will add up and will get you.

#5 I need to ice my knees more often, I need preventive maintenance on this body.

AND MOST IMPORTANT:  If you have to be on the sidelines....use your time to invest in your family, love on your wife and kids...and hang out with your Grandson.  My time down came at the perfect time, my Grandson was coming to visit.  I wasn't torn between getting in my training and playing with him.  The bonus of my recovery, I had time to hang out with Aiden.

GOD has a plan and it is perfect.

Runner's World Feature

Last night I picked up my copy of Runner's World (June 2012), and began to read the story of Alison Delgado.  Let's just say I could not put it down...
The personal and the running story are truly moving, but what stood out to me was Alison's faith and that RW did not leave that out.  In todays political correct world...expressions of faith are often left on the cutting room floor. But not with Alison or RW.

Alison "I just know it was a crazy tragic accident. God was with me that day and through my recovery...and it wasn't my day to die."

Give the links a click, and remember GOD puts us all here for a reason.  Some of us have blessed lives, some of us face challenges.  I don't claim to know or understand but I live with faith.   Palms 90:12 Teach us to number our days, that we may gain a heart of wisdom.

To run or not to run....

That is the question?

If you remember I had a little knee issue a few days/weeks back.  I visited the doctor and was told I had no structural damage.  Although the doctor told me I needed to rest my knee.  The doctor said to give it 14 days, and I could do whatever other exercises I wanted that did not hurt my knee.  I've followed "the rules," but now 10 days into this I HAVE THE ITCH.

I've been a good 4 days with no knee pain....What should I do?

I want to run!

(I do not support Twisted Sister, although my hair may have looked like this during my teenage years)

What should I do?  Do I run or not?

Pls post a comment and let me know your thoughts?
